　　布拉德（文斯·沃恩 Vince Vaughn 饰）与女友凯特（瑞茜·威瑟斯彭 Reese Witherspoon 饰）的生活就像普通夫妻一样，唯一的不同就是他们未婚也没有孩子，然而他们却比一般夫妻要多出一个头疼的问题，那就是双方父母均已离异并各过各的，于是每年圣诞节小两口便要分别去拜访四位家长，实乃分身乏术。前两年，布拉德和凯特都很侥幸地以公事借口躲过了繁杂的家庭聚会，双双飞往热带欢度跨年。然而今年却没那么顺利了，航班因大雾天气全部取消，小两口去不成度假，反而还无意被拍到并放上了电视新闻。逃离计划泡汤，两人只好在一天内奔走于双方父母的圣诞聚会，一路上不仅连走带跑，四个家庭也没让他们省心，哭笑不得的闹剧层出不穷……
